Safety - Do not become another VictimThis month the troop program has stress first aid. We would not want the holiday season to be spoiled by an accident, and scouts want to be prepared to do their best to help other people by providing first aid if the opportunity arises. Our scouts practices their skills so they will be ready to lend able assistance to others and to themselves.
Last week the Adult patrol presented a skit in which a number of scouts ended up in a life-threatening situationhaving fallen though thin ice on a pond, and no one went to their rescue. (An adult in a similar situation was rescued, fortunately). This was only a skit, but we should all remember that the first rule for any rescuer is not be become another victim. Is the situation is safe? How can a rescue attempt be made less risky? What backup is available if the responder has trouble?
