Youth Protection

We have a special troop program addressing youth protection on Monday April 2nd starting around 7:50 pm. We hope your son will attend this troop meeting, and you are also invited. This annual training for youth and adults is our way of being part of the solution to a wider social problem. contact Jery Stedinger jrs5@cornell.edu or call 257-8016.

Troop Policy - Heelies

A number of scouts have recently come to meeting with Heelies (shoes that also function as roller skates). While we all agree that these are really NEAT, the troop committee has agreed that the Church meeting area is not a roller rink. We ask the scouts with such shoes not to bring them to meetings because of safety concerns for scouts, wear on the floor, and distraction from the troop program.

Troop Policy - Electronic equipment

The troop also asks that scouts do not take a cell phone, iPOD, Walkman or any other electronic devices on troop outings. These events are an opportunity to enjoy the out-of-doors and the friendship of our scouting family. Trips with long drives may be an exception, if in doubt please contact Jery Stedinger jrs5@cornell.edu or call 257-8016.

SIGN UP Monday April 2, Camping and rafting trip,

April 21, 2007 we will be heading down into the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania for a weekend of camping and rafting. Pine Creek has provided troop 2 with lots of fun in the past and we expect this year to be a great opportunity to get out and get wet! We will leave the parking lot at FCC at 9:00AM and return around 3:00PM on Sunday afternoon. The cost of the trip is $40 including equipment rental, camp site rental and a commemorative patch. We will camp at Colton Point State Park on Saturday before rafting on Sunday morning. There are lots of opportunities to see wildlife (including Bald Eagles, Osprey and some really cool yellow Palomino Trout). For more information on the rafting experience see www.pinecrk.com and we have some pictures from our last visit  at 2004-5 photos  More details, including patrol food costs, will follow. Wilderness Survival Experience, July 15-20

For the past 7 years, the Wilderness Survival Experience has been offered at Camp Tuscarora. It was even featured in the December 2004 issue of Boys' Life magazine! Imagine learning the skills of the Native Americans: how would you survive if you were ever without your equipment? This high-adventure program offers scouts the opportunity to build and sleep in their own natural shelters; collect and purify water; carve their own fire-by-friction set and light fires without matches; sample the abundance of wild edible plants that can be found in any environment; try their skill at primitive hunting weapons and traps; practice the arts of stalking and camouflage; and expand their awareness of the natural world. In addition to the exciting wilderness activities, scouts also have the opportunity to earn 4 merit badges by the end of the week: Environmental Science, Wilderness Survival, Indian Lore and Mammal Study. Join us for a week of fun-filled adventures and life-long lessons. This program runs this summer from July 15-20, and it's limited to 8 scouts (13+ years old, First Class rank or higher), so be sure to sign up soon!

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Joe Zapach, Clydester2@aol.com.
