SCOUTMASTER’S WELCOME

I love scouting and am so glad to have the scouting year begin. Last year the scouts decided to go to the Brotherhood Camporee sponsored by the Syracuse-area Boy Scout council and the Canadian Loyal Area council. Over 3000 scouts are expected. We will drive up Friday night and come back Sunday. This will be really exciting and a great adventure for us to go to an international event!

Then later in October is the District camporee. After last year's successful airplane oriented Fly-O-Ree, this year we are having an automotive maintenance theme, so that scouts can get the Auto Mechanic merit badge and have fun too. A number of auto clubs and museums are bringing classic vehicles, and scouts will do maintenance on a leader's vehicle.

Last year was great. In the late Spring, Michael Deyhim finished his Eagle rank, and we will have the Eagle Court of Honor on December 28th, when he is back from college. Congratulations Michael. Put the date on your calendar. So who is next?

At Camp Barton, Mark Tate did a great job along with Tim Nord and Robin Stedinger who were at camp almost all week. Tom, Luke and I also joined the fun. And fun it was! Ben Miller was a great SPL, and we won HONOR troop for the week. See our prize Watermelon on the web site. We canoed to Taughannock Falls State park and came back with a very strong head-wind and waves. Sailing, swimming, shooting sports, contests, and Frisbee were all great. The staff was wonderful. If you were not there, well, come next year.

If you have ideas for the program for this year, tell your patrol leader to bring the idea to the PLC on Tuesday, or come yourself and tell us about it. Who wants to go rafting in the spring?  Biking this fall?

See you Monday, Sept. 11, for our first meeting.

Michael Deyhim - Eagle Scout

Congratulations to Michael, he has joined the list of Eagle Scouts from troop 2 and his family, the troop and the scouting movement can all be proud of his achievements. Michael's project entailed clearing out the old composting area at our sponsor organization, First Congregational Church, clearing out undergrowth and then improving the pathways and building three new composting stations. Michael has now graduated from Ithaca High School and we wish him well for the future. A Court of Honor will be held on December 28 during Michael's Christmas break from college.

Year end Court of Honor and Troop picnic

The troop, families and friends gathered at Stewart Park to celebrate our year of scouting, recognize achievements and to wish each other a great summer. Many merit badges were awarded, Kenny and Sam were presented with their new ranks by their proud parents and a special presentation was made to recognize Peter Wheeler's Eagle Scout rank the previous year. There are pictures of the evening on our photos page.

Memorial Day weekend trip to Boston

Fourteen of us made the trip to Boston for the Memorial Day weekend trip. A great time was had by all, the weather was fantastic and we saw a good deal of the best Boston has to offer. Many thanks to Steve Lampke for setting everything up and to everyone that went for making it such a memorable weekend. There are pictures of the event on our photos page and I am always keen to pt any others up if you would like to send them in.
