Father's Day Bike Trip and Campout, June 17-18

June 17th is the annual troop bike trip.  The scouts have really enjoyed these adventures. This year we are going to bike to  Fillmore Glen State Park  near Moravia, and then camp there Saturday night. Meet at the church at 9 am. We will stop on the way up for patrol lunches. We should return around 1 pm Sunday.

Adults are invited to join us for the adventure, if only for the Saturday or Sunday ride. What a great way to spend fathers day!  Trip is about 26 flat miles each way, and the whole troop has managed these trips well. Older scouts may take a longer route.

Lots to do at the park: play, enjoy the stream, ride bikes, hike the gorge, reflect on the history of the thirteenth president.

A word to the wise: be prepared. All riders must have helmets. Water is advisable. Bikes should fit riders and be in good repair.

If you have any questions please contact Jery Stedinger jrs5@cornell.edu or call 257-8016 (evenings)

Year end Court of Honor and Troop picnic

Once again, we would like to invite everyone to join us for the end of year Court of Honor and picnic at the main pavilion at Stewart Park, we will be there from 6:00PM with the ceremony scheduled to start at 7:30. Our scouts' efforts and achievements as well as those of our Scoutmasters, adult leaders and Troop committee will be recognized in what we hope will be pleasant weather and we look forward to seeing you all there. The troop will be providing drinks, chips and have several grills going for you to cook your own food. Because of time constraints please bring food that can be grilled fairly quickly so that everyone can eat. Families are to bring their own utensils, plates etc and a salad or dessert to share.

Memorial Day weekend trip to Boston

Fourteen of us made the trip to Boston for the Memorial Day weekend trip. A great time was had by all, the weather was fantastic and we saw a good deal of the best Boston has to offer. Many thanks to Steve Lampke for setting everything up and to everyone that went for making it such a memorable weekend. There are pictures of the event on our photos page and I am always keen to pt any others up if you would like to send them in.

Recruitment - 2006 and beyond

Troop 2 is not alone in facing difficulties with maintaining numbers in the face of increasing alternatives to Scouting. Some of our recent events have been incredible experiences for the boys taking part and the value of scouting cannot be overestimated. To ensure that we grow our numbers we are looking for ideas from scouts, parents, troop alumni or anyone else interested in helping. If you know boys between 11 and 18 then talk to them about the troop and see whether they would like to come along and find out what's going on. If your scouts have friends at school then talk to them about overcoming their fears and asking them to come to a meeting - they might just enjoy themselves!
