December day out

Each year Troop 2 takes a day out for some fun and adventure combined with a learning experience. This year we will meet for a few games based on the Native American tradition of counting coup. The boys will keep scores based on the number of times their light assisted coup sticks can be used to score on their opponents. After a few games we will head out for pizza supper and then onto Cornell outdoor Education where they have the largest indoor natural rock climbing wall in North America. It covers the entire east end of Bartels Hall, and is 160' wide and 30' high, for a total of 4,800 square feet of climbing surface. The scouts will receive excellent tuition spending two hours learning climbing skills and working off their pizza.  For more information contact Mark Tate mark@bigbro.biophys.cornell.edu or call 266-9422 to sign up. All those taking part in the climbing must complete the waiver form and can get blank copies by clicking here. Please print out and complete the second page and bring it with you next Saturday.

Bell ringing on Ithaca Commons

Scoutmaster Mark Tate, Rick Grossman and several scouts had a great time bell ringing and collecting for the Salvation Army Saturday December 3rd. In addition to the live music, stilt-walkers and good fellowship there was a chance to see Santa and his elves rappelling down the side of a seven storey building and (literally) dropping into the Ithaca Commons. For some pictures please go to our photos pages.

Annual dues collection

As we did last year, the annual dues collection will be split into two parts $35 due now and the balance of $35 will be payable, in January, by any scout who did not contribute at the $200 level to our fundraising initiative. Any scout who makes the $200 will not have to pay the second dues amount and will also have at least $40 (20% of their fundraising sales) to spend in their troop account. Please send dues with your scouts to the next meeting or mail the payment (payable to BSA Troop 2) direct to our treasurer Tony Brock 257-8776

Philmont Journal - 2004

At long last we have the journal of the troop’s 2004 expedition to the National Scout Ranch, Philmont. The scouts worked together in writing the journal and have managed to capture the great experiences they had, to read their story follow the link http://www.troop2ithaca.org/Phimont%202004/Philmont%20journal.htm

Merit badges

Our new merit badge coordinator, Rick Grossman, would like to hear from scouts regarding their choice of merit badge classes and will be available before next Monday's meeting to start arranging options. Anyone with ideas or wishing to join or help out with merit badge counseling should contact Rick Grossman rdg@sunytccc.edu or call 277-5556 (not after 9:00pm).  Ben Brown blb3@cornell.edu still needs to hear from scouts wishing to complete merit badges in Camping and Family Life merit badges. Any scouts should contact Ben as soon as possible to avoid overlapping with future classes.
