Court of Honor
Monday October, 3 saw our boys and parents gathered to celebrate their
achievements through the summer. Mrs. Tiwari spoke to everyone about the
troop's progress and the need for continued parental involvement. Mark Tate
highlighted the bike ride and the service work at Barton as a great day for
the troop and reminded everyone about upcoming activities. The troop now has
seven scouts at the penultimate rank of Life and ready to start work on
their advancement to Eagle. At our next meeting Mrs. Hunter is bringing space
suits from NASA, everyone is encouraged to bring a friend, ice cream will
be given to those who do. There are pictures of the evening on our
web site www.troop2ithaca.org and then
click on photos. We have masses of information on the troop and scouting so
please remember to bookmark the site and visit frequently.

District Fly-o-Ree
What an event! Scouts can earn Aviation merit badge and take free airplane rides through the Experimental Aircraft Association's "Young Eagles" program. Volunteers and pilots from the EAA will be manning stations throughout and scouts will even get a chance to pre-flight a real airplane. There will be a ham radio station for the International Jamboree on the Air, and the Wings of Eagles Museum has promised to fly in a warbird, weather permitting. We're working on a number of other outside groups for demonstrations or static displays, as well.
Saturday night includes an IMAX film festival on the giant screen including "To Fly", "Flyers", "Straight Up" and "Magic of Flight".
Troops are welcome to camp Saturday night (no ground fires allowed) on the airport grounds. This is a great opportunity to introduce friends to the scouting experience. All scouts MUST attend a safety briefing and get a badge before they can enter the ramp area. All scouts and guests must have their parents complete the Young Eagles Registration form and get it back to Mr. Nord no later than next Monday's meeting.
